Marsh Fork Elementary School sits just 225 feet from a coal loading silo that releases chemical-laden
coal dust and 400 yards from a 385 foot tall leaking sludge dam with a nearly 3 billion gallon capacity.
Independent studies have shown the school to be full of coal dust.
Pennies Of Promise is a grass roots effort comprised of local citizens of the Coal River Valley, WV, and other concerned fellow Appalachians. In the absence of help from our elected officials, we have looked to each other for support as we are raising the funds necessary to build a new school in the community ourselves. In the most recent fundraising push, a grandfather of a recent Marsh Fork Elementary graduate, Ed Wiley, again hit the road, this time to New York City. He will be in Rockefeller Plaza throughout September in hopes of getting on the Today Show. He will be joined by friends such as Woody Harrleson and Robert Kennedy |
